Kudos to ASTA board members Olga Ramudo and Eddie Woodham for appearing on TV recently and talking about unregulated resort fees in south Florida with their local ABC affiliate. We support efforts to increase transparency in travel pricing because according to our research, 61 percent of travelers oppose the practice of hotels adding mandatory resort fees atop advertised rates. It is projected that in 2019, over $3 billion dollars will be collected from consumers due to these hidden fees, up 35 percent from the previous year. Our members have complied with the DOT's full-fare advertising rule with regard to airfares for close to a decade and think the same principles should apply to the hotel side – these are mandatory changes, and they should be included in the full advertised price. Watch Olga and Eddie's piece below!
