American Society of Travel Advisors Launches “Vacation Do Over” Contest

Enter to win a $10,000 “Vacation Do Over” – a Dream Getaway Planned by a Professional Travel Advisor

Alexandria, VA, June 18, 2019 – The American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) wants to re-do your burned vacation. Do you ever wish you could hit the reset button on your DIY vacation? Perhaps you had it all mapped out and your trip just didn’t go according to plan? We want to help you reclaim that vacation and do it right with the help of an expert travel planner!

One lucky entrant will win the trip of their dreams, valued at up to $10,000. Best of all, this time we’ll do all the work, as every aspect of your vacation will be planned by one of ASTA’s expert travel advisors.

ASTA-member travel advisors have seen it all. Travelers getting burned left and right when they book online, or worse when something completely out of their control happens to their trip and they’re left on their own to figure it out. Or when a traveler thinks they’re getting a good deal, only to show up and find that nothing is what it appeared online.

We know that time is money and when it comes to your precious PTO, there is nothing worse than having your best laid plans disrupted by things that could have been avoided with the help of a trusted travel advocate. Travelers don’t have to do it themselves! You can avoid costly disasters and booking mistakes when working with a professional.

To illustrate this point, we’re asking contestants to share their worst travel disasters. If you want to redeem your vacation, we want to help!

The rules are simple:

  1. Fill out our online submission form found on by July 19. We’re also asking that travelers send us a quick video to help us put a name to a contestant face (or faces).
  2. Follow on Instagram or Facebook.
  3. Share one of our “Vacation Do Over” post on your Instagram or Facebook pages.

The winner will be announced on August 1, 2019.

According to ASTA research in our annual “How America Travels” study, consumers are increasingly turning to travel advisors as sources of insider destination expertise and custom services. This moves travel advisors’ role within consumers’ travel planning journey “upstream” away from the booking stage, and closer to travel planning and inspiration.

39% of travelers who use a travel advisor cite that it’s because of the high level of service advisors provide. Travelers also like having someone to assist if travel disruptions occur (35%) and with booking an unfamiliar destination (32%).

According to the 2018 study, top reasons for travel advisor non-users to start using one include help booking unfamiliar destination (42%), expert/insider information on destinations (40%), access to hotels, airlines and cruises (33%) and upgrades and/or amenities (33%).

Rebranded in 2018 as the American Society of Travel Advisors, ASTA is the leading global advocate for travel advisors, the travel industry and the traveling public. Its members represent 80 percent of all travel sold in the United States through the travel agency distribution channel. Together with hundreds of internationally-based members, ASTA’s history of industry advocacy traces back to its founding in 1931 when it launched with the mission to facilitate the business of selling travel through effective representation, shared knowledge and the enhancement of professionalism.
