ASTA, NACTA agents to Scoot for Charity in Maui

Maui, Hawaii, May 12, 2016 – Travel agents participating in "Scooting for Charity" during the American Society of Travelagents' ASTA Maui Showcase today will gain first-hand knowledge of what some travelers with disabilities encounter while traveling.

The event, sponsored by Special Needs Group (SNG), helps to demystify disability travel in a positive way. Travel agents take mobility scooters through an obstacle course so they can experience the joy and freedom mobility brings. The event is being held in the halls of the Westin Maui Resort & Spa on Ka'anapali Beach where ASTA and NACTA (National Association of Career Travel agents) members are gathering May 11-15 for the first-ever ASTA Showcase.

SNG senior industry consultant Jim Smith, CTIE, said, "Our partners at ASTA and NACTA have been among the most vocal advocates in supporting our cause of delivering an accessible world. On behalf of SNG President Andrew Garnett, we are delighted to donate a Mobility Scooter to Camillus House in ASTA's name, and we look forward to doing the same at NACTA's Annual Conference in November." The mission of Camillus House is to alleviate homelessness and hunger in major metropolitan areas, starting with Miami.

ASTA President and CEO Zane Kerby said, "ASTA is happy to bring the accessible travel experience some of us take for granted to travel agents attending the Maui Showcase so they can empathize with their clients with disabilities, and with seniors who may need extra assistance. We are proud to partner with Special Needs Group for this learning experience."
