“Travel Leaders is a key player in the industry, and this vote of confidence will allow us to redouble our efforts to promote and defend the travel advisor community at all levels of government, within the travel industry and before the traveling public,” said ASTA President & CEO Zane Kerby. “We are grateful to Travel Leaders and all our consortia, franchise and host agency partners for their leadership and investment in the national trade association’s work to grow this profession.”
“It’s vital that the travel agency community have a strong, effective advocate to support our industry sector on Capitol Hill, with government entities around the country and in the media,” said Travel Leaders Group CEO Ninan Chacko, CTC. “We look forward to working together with ASTA to highlight the tremendous value travel advisors bring to travel transactions, as well as the economy.”
ASTA kicked off the New Year with a renewed focus on what it means to be a travel advisor. In August of 2018, the association announced its rebrand to the American Society of Travel Advisors. This name change, the Society’s first in almost 75 years, embodies the revitalization of the agency sector that has been taking place for several years and sends a critical message to the traveling public and the broader travel industry.
“Promoting and defending the travel advisor community is our ongoing commitment. When we celebrate proud partnerships at ASTA, it’s because we know that to advance our mission, we need the support of our industry behind us,” said Kerby.
Rebranded in 2018 as the American Society of Travel Advisors, ASTA is the leading global advocate for travel advisors, the travel industry and the traveling public. Its members represent 80 percent of all travel sold in the United States through the travel agency distribution channel. Together with hundreds of internationally-based members, ASTA’s history of industry advocacy traces back to its founding in 1931 when it launched with the mission to facilitate the business of selling travel through effective representation, shared knowledge and the enhancement of professionalism.
