About
I became involved in the travel industry as a result of a love for travel, as have most of us in the industry. When I was younger, I didn’t feel I had the financial means to travel for pleasure as I would have liked, so I took every opportunity available to move to different places. I’ve lived in a total of 9 states and 4 countries. My European adventures lasted 7 years after I initially went for a 10-week solo trip. I even lived on a sailboat in the Mediterranean for 3 of those years!
I worked in the hotel and restaurant trade for a number of years and gained knowledge and appreciation for food, wines and the hospitality industry.
I've always been interested in the natural culture in communities and was honored to have taken a course and participated in ceremony on the Navaho Reservation in Arizona.
There were a few times in the past that I thought about getting into the travel industry, but I was told I needed experience to get a job as a travel agent (this was a few years ago), and I also would not have been able to support myself as I built my business. Recently, I was in a different financial situation and when my career opportunities were not going in the direction I wanted, I decided to take the opportunity to finally go into the travel industry. Now as a travel professional, I’ve been working on my business ever since. I initially worked at an agency for a year and now I run my own business with the help of a host agency.
I have always been keen on preserving the sustainability of the planet. I am therefore conscious of the impact travel can have on our volatile environment. I donate a portion of all my earnings to purchase carbon credits, helping offset the emissions created by travel. I also prefer to use suppliers who have an eye toward sustainable practices whenever possible.
