ASTA Industry Awards

As part of our mission to promote excellence within the industry, every year, ASTA presents its prestigious awards to recognize professionals who make lasting contributions to the travel industry and exhibit extraordinary support for the travel agency community.

These awards give us a chance to show appreciation for the efforts of individuals and companies that go above and beyond in supporting ASTA’s mission to advance professionalism, education and advocacy for our industry and the traveling public.

MEET OUR

GREEN PARTNER IN TRAVEL AWARD WINNER

Nominations for this award are evaluated based on six ecotourism-specific criteria. These include:
Environmental Impact- Promoting sustainable practices to reduce emissions, managing resources responsibly, and improving waste management to preserve natural environments. 
Socio-cultural Impact- Fostering community harmony, respecting local traditions, and enhancing quality of life by managing visitor numbers and minimizing disruptions. 
Economic Impact- Strengthening local economies through responsible tourism practices, ensuring profits benefit communities and supporting sustainable development 
Visitor Management- Developing infrastructure and sustainable tourism strategies to support responsible travel and minimize negative impacts on destinations. 
Transparency and Accountability- Ensuring transparency in operations and accountability for environmental and social impacts, fostering trust and responsible tourism practices. 
Examples of Specific Practices- Advocating for responsible tourism initiatives, prioritizing cultural preservation, and promoting sustainable tourism models in sensitive and overcrowded destinations.

ICON AWARD RECIPIENT

Sponsored by Windstar Cruises, the Icon Award was created to honor female leaders who have demonstrated excellence in their respective roles, while simultaneously inspiring and empowering other women in the travel industry and promoting women’s advancement. This award highlights the accomplishments and success stories of women in various sectors of the travel industry, including travel advisors, agency owners, tourism representatives, and supplier partners.

MEET OUR

ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Entrepreneur of the Year Award was established in 2015 by the Dan and Gloria Bohan Foundation to promote the entrepreneurial spirit in the travel and hospitality industry through recognition of innovators who have either established their own businesses or who have been responsible for significant entrepreneurial initiatives within an existing organization. Each year, the Foundation, in conjunction with ASTA staff and membership, selects one person or organization that best exemplifies this spirit of entrepreneurship to receive the Award and a $10,000 cash prize.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are winners selected?

The selection process varies by award.

Supplier awards are given in recognition of a company or individual’s involvement with ASTA and support for the travel advisor community and voted on by the ASTA membership via on-line ballot.

Membership awards are based on involvement with the Society and selected by staff, members and/or chapter leadership, depending on the award.

Advocacy awards are given in recognition of work done on behalf of the industry and selected by staff, members and/or chapter leadership, depending on the award.

When and where are the awards presented?

Our Industry Awards are presented at the annual ASTA Global Convention, our Showcase events as well as during ASTA Legislative Day.

How have the awards changed over the years?

We have added new awards over the years, but the basic concept of promoting excellence and recognizing those who make lasting contributions to the Society and to the travel agency community remains at the core of our industry awards program. 

Our most recent addition is the Robert L. Duglin Chapter Excellence Award, an annual award that recognizes the chapter that best exemplifies the special qualities of conscientiousness, community building, volunteerism, and overall excellence exhibited by our long-serving ASTA member/volunteer and then staffer Robert L. Duglin.
