Candidate Statement:

Throughout my 25-year career in the travel industry, I have been committed to the success and professional development of travel advisors, advocating for our industry, and fostering strong, meaningful relationships within our community. My passion for travel and leadership has driven me to serve in a variety of roles, from frontline advisor, sales and marketing, supplier relationships and corporate travel management to my current position Chief Relationship Officer for Montecito Village Travel, a leading host agency.  Today, I work almost exclusively with independent travel advisors and agency owners, supporting their business growth and ensuring they have the resources needed to succeed.

I am honored to present myself as a candidate for the Host Agency Director position on ASTA's Board of Directors, and I am eager to bring my experience, leadership, and vision to the role.

Experience and Leadership in the Travel Industry

I have been a dedicated ASTA member throughout my career, recognizing its vital role in supporting travel advisors, advocating for our industry, and upholding professional standards. My journey began with a brick-and-mortar travel agency, and today I support a pioneer in the host agency model Montecito Village Travel (MVT) and its diverse network of independent contractors, from solo entrepreneurs to established groups and agencies. Since joining MVT in 2012, I have witnessed its remarkable growth, with advisor logins increasing from 214 to 840 and total sales reaching $440 million in 2024. MVT also maintains a strong air presence, with 25.7% of sales attributed to air. This broad experience gives me a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities not only within host agencies but also for advisors across the industry.

The depth of knowledge I bring to this role is not just my own but that of our entire MVT management team, which allows me to understand the many different aspects relative to a host agency.  The collective expertise of our team gives me a broad and nuanced perspective of the industry and enables me to effectively advocate for policies and resources that strengthen the entire travel advisor community.

Currently, I serve on several ASTA committees, working to drive initiatives that benefit our members. I am particularly passionate about fostering the success of independent contractors, advocating for policies that support their business models, and ensuring that ASTA remains a strong voice for all travel professionals.

Commitment to Leadership and Service

Beyond my work in the travel industry, I have dedicated myself to leadership and service within my community. I currently serve on the Board of Directors for Bread for the Journey – Omaha, a nonprofit organization that provides micro-grants to community nonprofits. This work has reinforced my belief in the power of grassroots efforts and the impact that targeted financial support can have on small businesses and community organizations.

Additionally, I am a current member and past president of Center Sphere Braintrust Group, a networking and leadership organization that fosters business connections and professional growth. I am also a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Omaha, where I led initiatives to support children’s programs and community service projects.

Vision for ASTA and the Host Agency Community

If elected as Host Agency Director, I will bring a strong focus on:

1. Advocacy and Industry Support – I believe ASTA plays a critical role in shaping policies that impact travel advisors. ASTA serves as the foremost lobbying organization for the travel industry, working to ensure that lawmakers and regulators understand the needs of travel professionals. I am committed to ensuring our members' voices are heard and that ASTA continues to advocate for our profession at the highest levels.

2. Empowering Host Agencies and Independent Advisors – As host agencies continue to evolve, it is critical that ASTA provides the right support and resources to help them thrive. I will advocate for tools, education, and policies that strengthen the independent advisor community and support host agencies in their leadership roles.

3. Strengthening Industry Relationships – As Chief Relationship Officer, I understand the importance of fostering meaningful connections. I want to enhance collaboration between host agencies, independent contractors, suppliers, and ASTA leadership to provide understanding of the host agency model and its impact on the united travel industry.

4. Education and Professional Development – Travel advisors succeed when they have access to the right tools and knowledge. I will work to expand educational opportunities, mentorship programs, and business development resources for advisors at all stages of their careers.

5. ASTA’s Role in Legislative Advocacy – ASTA’s lobbying efforts protect the interests of travel advisors by advocating for favorable policies, such as independent contractor protections, fair regulation, and industry relief measures. I will work to ensure that host agencies and independent contractors stay informed and engaged in these crucial advocacy efforts.

6. Community Engagement and Giving Back – My work with nonprofits and community organizations has shown me the power of collective action. I will encourage ASTA members to engage in service initiatives that not only elevate our profession but also contribute positively to our communities.

Why I Am the Right Candidate

My experience in multiple facets of the travel industry, combined with my leadership in community organizations, positions me uniquely for this role. I have a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing today’s travel advisors, and I am passionate about finding innovative solutions to drive our industry forward.

I believe that ASTA’s strength comes from its members, and as Host Agency Director for ASTA’s Board of Directors, I will be dedicated to ensuring transparency, clear communication, and strategic growth. I am honored by the opportunity to serve, and I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to support the success of travel advisors everywhere.

I appreciate your consideration and your support. Together, we can continue to elevate ASTA, strengthen our industry, and create lasting opportunities for all travel professionals.

Candidate Statement:

As a dedicated professional in the travel industry and an active ASTA Premium member, I am eager to contribute my expertise and passion to furthering ASTA’s mission of advocacy, education, and industry advancement.

Over the past 17 years, I have successfully spearheaded InteleTravel’s initiatives to introduce the travel industry to aspiring professionals. We all ‘started somewhere’ and I strongly believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to fuel their passion. With the right training, support, tools and our God given talents, success IS possible. My career has been spent on building a robust and continuously evolving travel training programs/platforms, we have established ourselves as industry leaders by empowering new home-based travel advisors. By equipping them with the tools and knowledge to build thriving and profitable travel businesses, we are doing our big part in ensuring the long-term success of this industry for generations to come.

Let’s be honest, growth isn’t easy. Not for any Agency and any individual Advisor. It takes grit. It takes resilience. It take dedication to professionalism and education. It takes getting up when everything, and everyone around you tells you to ‘stay down’. Success isn’t about what we wish for- it’s about you’re willing to fight for. I’m willing to fiercely fight for this industry, ASTA and every Agency and Advisor in it! Those in the industry who know me, know that “fierceness” is what drives me every day. As the original host travel agency and a family-owned business that my father started 34 years ago, I grew up surrounded by strong leadership and innovation. It has guided me my whole life in my commitment to ethical practices, fostering collaboration within the travel advisor community, and adapting to evolving industry trends.

I believe in supporting those who support you, and what ASTA has done for the industry over the last 9
decades has been instrumental in all of our success. Actively participating in ASTA initiatives, including
increasing ASTA membership within our agency to over 500 members, attending ASTA Global Convention, promoting VTA program and important initiatives like Legislative Day, is what deepened my desire to support ASTA more and run for the Host Agency Director position on the National Board of  Director.

ASTA’s mission is supporting the travel industry, travel advisors and their customers. As the largest host agency dedicated to turning passionate entrepreneurs into successful Travel advisors, I have spent over a decade with my boots (or heels) on the ground building that runway for Advisors. I’m continuously blown away witnessing hundred and thousand start out by following our education path and end up selling millions in travel, build a loyal customer base, and surpass all their life goals. When they reach the top, they always ‘send the elevator back down’ and dedicate themselves to helping others. I continue to learn so much from them!

I’m asking for your vote...for the opportunity to serve on the board…for the opportunity to work together…for the opportunity to take my fierceness and focus on enhancing ASTA member engagement…for the opportunity to think outside the box & strengthen advocacy efforts…and for the opportunity to promote ethical practices amongst the industry. I want to continue serving alongside esteemed colleagues to advance ASTA’s mission. Please feel comfortable enough to reach out to me for anything at all.

My name is Anita Pagliasso, and I have the privilege of currently serving on the ASTA National Board of Directors. Today, I am excited to announce that I am running for reelection to represent the Premium Host Agency membership of ASTA for another two-year term. It has been an honor to serve our community, and I am eager to continue the work we’ve started together.

Over the course of my career, I have devoted myself to advocating for host agencies and the independent travel advisors they support. As President of PATH (Professional Association of Travel Hosts), Vice President of Industry Relations at KHM Travel Group, Co-Chair of the CLIA STARBoard Committee, and President of the California Coalition of Travel Organizations, I’ve been at the forefront of initiatives that elevate our profession. These roles have given me valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities facing our industry, and I’ve worked diligently to ensure that host agencies and independent travel advisors have the resources and representation they need to thrive.

In my role as Vice President of Industry Relations at KHM Travel Group, I have had the opportunity to work directly with thousands of independent travel advisors across the country. Whether it’s navigating changing consumer trends, leveraging technology, or adapting to new regulations, I understand the complexities of our industry and the support advisors need to thrive. My work at KHM has also allowed me to build strong relationships with industry partners, ensuring that the voices of our advisors are heard and respected.

The cruise industry is a vital segment of travel, and I am committed to ensuring that travel advisors continue to play a central role in its success.

Additionally, as President of the California Coalition of Travel Organizations, I have been deeply involved in legislative advocacy. Our work has focused on protecting the rights and interests of travel advisors, particularly in the face of legislation that could have unintended consequences for our industry. This experience has reinforced my belief in the importance of having a strong, united voice to advocate for our community at both the state and national levels.

Throughout my career, I have been driven by a passion for supporting and empowering travel advisors. I believe in the incredible value that our profession brings to consumers, suppliers, and the global travel industry. However, I also recognize that we face significant challenges—from economic shifts and technological advancements to regulatory changes and competitive pressures. These challenges require experienced, dedicated leaders who can navigate the complexities of our industry and advocate for the needs of our community. I am confident that my background and experience have prepared me to meet these challenges head-on.

If reelected to the ASTA Board of Directors, I will continue to champion the needs of host agencies and independent travel advisors. My priorities include:

1. Advocacy: Ensuring that the voices of host agencies and travel advisors are heard at the highest levels of the travel industry and government. I will work to influence policies and regulations that support our community and address the unique needs of our members.

2. Education and Professional Development: Promoting programs and resources that empower travel advisors to grow their businesses and adapt to industry changes. By investing in education, we can ensure that advisors have the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a competitive marketplace.

3. Collaboration: Strengthening partnerships with suppliers, industry organizations, and other stakeholders to create opportunities for growth and innovation. Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient industry.

4. Recognition: Continuing to promote the value of travel advisors to consumers and suppliers. It is essential that we highlight the expertise, professionalism, and dedication that advisors bring to their clients and the industry as a whole.

5. Support for Independent Contractors: Addressing the specific needs of independent contractors, who represent a significant and growing segment of our industry. I will work to ensure that they have the resources, protections, and opportunities they need to thrive.

ASTA plays a critical role in shaping the future of our industry. As your representative, I am committed to ensuring that host agencies and independent travel advisors have a seat at the table and a voice in the decisions that impact our profession. Together, we have made great progress, but there is still much work to be done.

I am incredibly proud of the accomplishments we have achieved during my time on the Board, and I am inspired by the resilience and dedication of our members. With your support, I am confident that we can continue to build on this momentum and create a brighter future for our industry.

I would be honored to have your vote in this election. Travel is your business, and ASTA is your voice. Let’s work together to ensure that our voices are heard, our needs are met, and our profession continues to thrive.
