Fernweh (n): far sickness; a homesickness for places you haven’t been to yet. This German word best sums up my lifelong passion for travel and exploration. This is how I feel every day as I walk past my world map, as I budget for my travel fund, as I scroll Instagram feeds of vibrant places around the globe. And while I haven’t seen every corner of the world yet, they’re on my list. My appetite for exploration is homegrown. With Park Ranger parents, I spent my childhood vacations traversing the country’s wild expanse of natural splendors. We camped across every terrain, hiked to every vista, and stopped at every roadside historical marker and national monument. I like to joke that I’ve seen every rock Lewis and Clark ever tripped over. Those travels are my fondest memories and sparked a constant craving for adventure. After graduating high school, the international travel bug hit and I spent my college years helping my dad plan new overseas family vacations while tackling my own, independent adventures along the way. A study abroad in Mexico and an internship in Belgium honed my wanderlust and fostered a love of immersing myself in cultures different from my own. Whether it’s a quick rustic getaway into the mountains, late nights in a new town, or globetrotting decadence, I treasure every moment I get to step away and see the world with new eyes. Travel makes me a better person. Every new adventure opens my heart and mind to all the beauty and variety this world has to offer. I want to help you experience this beauty too.
