For the whole of my 40 year travel career I've been a specialist. First Hawaii, then briefly Jamaica, and for the past 20 years the South Pacific, specifically Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, the Cooks, and French Polynesia. Modern booking tools make self booking easier than ever, and so if as agents we aren't adding value by not only gently steering the consumer towards the best solution but also by educating them to the limits of the value of social media and advice from a cousin, then we don't have much to offer. Our knowledge and persuasion skills are our most valuable assets.
